Dirt Jumps at the New Leisure Centre

The model for the new dirt jumps at the leisure centre in Oswestry has now been completed and is to be taken to a meeting with contractors and officers on 17th November. Here are the first pictures of the Model and the design which the group has come up with.
When designing the model the group wanted to cater for everyone and put together for a mixture of ramps.

A bowl section at one end of the jumps

The group wanted to include lights and fencing around the
jumps
Starting ramps - the multicoloured building to the left of
the picture is a shelter. This would not obviously be in the middle
of the jumps but the group wanted one including.

If you would like to comment on the designs please let us know your thoughts.

Open Activity Session at Holbache Road

This Saturday Oswestry Town Youth Project which hosts the Ramped project is holding an Open Activity session at The Centre, Holbache road. The session will include opportunity for riding ramps and running alongside it will be graffiti art and DJ workshops. The session kicks off at 2pm so if you can make it come along and meet members of the Ramped team and ride the ramps.
You can also view the latest developments for the BMX dirt jumps at the Leisure Centre. The group has been working on a model to present to the team managing the scheme. We would love to have your views and ideas so come along and have a look.
The Ramped team operate a regular session in Oswestry on a Wednesday evening and are currently looking at a number of projects other than the Dirt jumps at the Leisure Centre. If you want to get involved come along to Holbache road from 18.30 on most Wednesdays. We are looking at a number of trips to other skateparks, so it would probably be best to give us a ring on 01691654175 to check if we are about before turning up.
I will post some pictures of the model that is being built soon so come back and check them out.

News from Oswestry

The local Skate and BMX group which meets on a Wednesday evening from 6.30 at The Centre, Holbache Road is looking to work with other Council Departments to build Dirt Jumps next to the new Leisure Centre. Last week members of the group met with Shaun Burkey, Countryside and Conservation officer to have a look at the site the ramps will be built on. Contractors have made soil available and a digger is likely to be available to move the soil. Shaun also talked to us about lanscaping the area and putting in furniture alongside the area.

Tonight the group starts planning the ramps. We would like to get the ramps built before Christmas and therefore we need to move quick.

Ramped at Blackberry Fair Whitchurch

Well Frustrated! After considerable efforts to ensure this session went ahead, and with DJ workshops looking to operate alongside the Ramped session, the Ramps didn't turn up!!
To all those that helped to arrange this and to those who had turned up to ride the ramps, I can only apologise. Unfortunately the driver who was to deliver the ramps was called out to a Fire (He is a retained fire fighter) and therefore the ramps remained locked away.
By the time we had established what was happening it was too late to get the ramps to Whitchurch and set them up for people to ride.
Naturally we are looking at ways to get round this in the future to make sure people are not left disappointed.
We will be looking to organise another session in Whitchurch, and will keep you informed of progress.

Ramped at the Blackberry Fair Whitchurch - 2nd October 2010

This weekend the Ramped project returns to Whitchurch. The ramps are going to be located at Centre North East next door to Tesco's on the ball court. We have been invited to bring the ramps as part of a fantastic event happening in Whitchurch called the Blackberry Fair. To find out more about the event visit the website at http://www.backberryfair.co.uk/.
The Ramps will be at Centre North East from 12noon and will include all the usual activity. If you have not got the equipment to have a go, we will be bringing some with us, so there is no excuse for not giving it a try.
See you Saturday.

Latest News

After a break we are now back working and looking at planning the next ramped sessions. We are currently looking at another date for Morda which we hope will be at a weekend in the near future and also at a session in Whitchurch.
We had some positive responses during the summer to our tour and we will be following up other sessions which partners talked to us about during the Tour.

Ramped in Shawbury

What a turnout! We definitely had the busiest session of the tour today with loads of people turning out to try out the ramps. Once again the demand was for BMX and we could have done with more bikes to cope with this, although everyone was brilliant in sharing the bikes. The Weather was a bit temperamental but we got away with just a few short breaks from the ramps whilst they dried out from the showers. What one of the breaks allowed was for a visit to the Dirt jumps built with the Support of Shawbury Parish Council alongside the play area.
Again we were greeted with support by the local community with visits by the local community policing team, a member of the Parish council and by others from the area wanting to see what was going on. Andrew Darlington from Shropshire Council sports development team also called in. Andrew is shortly to leave his role with the team and has been a big supporter of the project and we all wish him well for the future.
Miriam Turner from Shropshire Youths North East Rural Youth work project also deserves a mention as she had clearly ensured that people were aware of the projects presence and this was reflected in the turnout. Thanks Miriam.
Once again the call from the young people was for the project to return again shortly and we will be liaising with the local policing team and Miriam Turner to consider a visit during the Autumn. Look out for news on the website and Blog.

Tomorrow we return to be closer to our home base with a visit to Morda Village hall. I anticipate that we might see some familiar faces. Looking forward to visiting all the venues we have visited this week again in the future.

Ramped at Whitchurch

We had been told that word of us being in Whitchurch had not got out to all the locals, but thanks to the enthusiasm and commitment of some of the guys from Higher Heath a great session went under way. Transfers were the trick of the day for all, thanks to an innovative ramp set up, but an endo stole first place in the competition held at the end of the session! A massive thanks to everyone who took part and made it a great day. Look out Shawbury!

As you can see from the appearance of the Blog, Jon and Tim have added their creative talents to make it look heaps better.

ENDO!!!!!!!!!

Ramped at Higher Heath

The benchmark was set today for the most number of attendees to a Ramped session ever. Thanks to all who attended and gave it their all. Everybody was eager to try out some new tricks and let one another take turns on the ramps. Congratulations to the winner and runner up of the Ramped competition, I hope you get lots of wear out of your new T's. Check out the pictures below of some of the action that went down.
It was great to get so much interest from the local community for the project. Thanks to all who came along to offer us encouragement.

Oswestry Skate and BMX group

Last night was a meeting of the Oswestry Group. This group meets weekly between 6 - 8.30pm at Holbache road. The group have built their own ramps and during a recent move changed them to be more easily moved and stored (Although they are still heavy!). We use the ramps outside when the weather lets us.
It was also a good opportunity to catch up with the 'RAMPED' team prior to the start of the North Shropshire Tour. The team was checking over the equipment we would be taking on tour and making sure we have got everything we need. Aaron reminded me that we need a Yard Brush - I hope its him that will be doing the Sweeping. I was putting new Bar ends in one of the bikes which required some filing to complete!
Tim is in overdrive producing T shirts. It's something he has done before but I did'nt realise quite how complicated this all was. I think he will be working until the early hours to complete.

Countdown to the North Shropshire Tour

With Just days to go before the Tour begins in North Shropshire, plans are coming together. Aaron has spent some time checking over the Bikes and Tim has been working on the publicity.
This is the launch of the Ramped project and we hope that it will be something that is around for a while. We can also claim another first as you are currently looking at the first Blog to appear on the Shropshire Youth website.
We hope that the blog will carry pictures, details and updates from the Ramped project and therefore will keep you informed with whats happening. Come back to the Blog to check out any news about the project, including any announcements about changes to the programme. We are all hoping for good weather as we are all wanting to see you all over the week.
